What’s Your House Worth?

www.zillow.com

This is a fun little tool that uses public records and mapping software to find similar area houses and approximate an appraisal value for your home. I curious how other’s fare, because my house came in about where I expected it. It was based on ten houses located within a half mile; one didn’t apply and shouldn’t have been used, but overall, not bad…

For fun, you can also fly around town and check out other neighborhoods to get a feel for what housing prices are going for in town.

Same with me, paid $75,000 in March 01. Reapparaised in March 03 for $90,000. Now is $77,888. Thank goodness the “03″ total got rid of the damn PMI payment !!

Yikes, marz…I thought my house was underestimated. What bothers me is that there are houses listed on my block that aren’t near the size or as in good of condition as my house that are valued greater.

Still find it an interesting site. If I put in all the upgrades I’ve done in the last 12 years, the site does give me a number which I believe would be much closer to what I would hope to get if I would sell.

I looked up a house that we have pined over for a few years now. It came up for sale a while back. Upon checking out their listed price, we about choked @ the $660,000 they were asking. That led to an ‘Oh nevermind’. It turns out, it sold for $336,000!

It just goes to show, just because someone has an asking price, doesn’t mean they will get anywhere near it.
