Gender Weighted Enrollment
I’ve never been a fan of affirmative action and race-weighted admissions, so I about fell off my chair when I read this Sun Times article. Apparently in Chicago’s elite prep-schools, Women are currently outweighing Men in enrollment at the rate of 70 to 30. The solution to this supposed problem? Dumb down the schools and allow underachieving boys in, and keep out the overachieving girls to ‘make it fair’.
Those in favor of this say the school system and society as a whole are set up against boys to succeed in school, so we should give them a break.
I’m sorry, but if my daughter works harder and gets better grades than my son, she deserves to be accepted into the ‘elite’ school, not him!

The older I get and the more I read… the more I am agreeing with the premise that boys and girls absolutely do learn differently. I also find myself agreeing more n more with the premise that schools are increasingly favoring girls, in their approach to teaching and discipline. I also find myself increasingly liking the idea of gender separated education.
