Some Random Thoughts

On Saturday night I reaffirmed what I already knew: F. Scott’s is the best restaurant in Peoria.  Hands down, no argument, and you’ll never convince me otherwise.

If you’re going to invite people to a cookout and tell them that we’ll eat at 1, don’t get pissed off when at 1:30, we ask you to start the grill!

I hope that Peoria Police Officer Parker loses his job, at the absolute minimum. Involuntary Manslaughter?  He sounds like a real hard-ass to me.  I wonder how many DUI’s he’s issued?

My wife bemoaned the fact that the rain was going to dampen whatever plans Dad’s had on Father’s day.  No, I said, it won’t.  As proof, I showed her a guy and his wife doing some landscaping, and another guy mowing his lawn.  In the rain.

I know I will lose all credibility when I say this, but the song Brandy never gets old.

I have a friend we nicknamed “Brandy” and whenever I call her, that song plays in my head. It is a guilty pleasure. I like the line about the braided chain of the finest silver from the north of Spain, and walking in the silent town.

Hey, a one-hit wonder is better than no hit at all. Plus you still have lots of street cred based on your love of all things Who.

Now that’s a REAL “guilty Pleasure” song. Usually when people say guilty pleasure they’re usually talking about some hair band which plenty of people would argue is good. You won’t get me to vouch for Twisted Sister, but whatever…it’s not like you’re stepping way outside of the mainstream to say you like it as your “guilty pleasure.” Now Brandy on the otherhand is classic guilty pleasure. The type of song that doesn’t have a lot of defenders and right there with Popcorn and Afternoon Delite.

I named my daughter “Brandy” after that song.
    I love it.
When my wife was pregnant with Brandy she was convinced it was another boy. We had two sons before her.
there had not been a girl on my side of the family in more than 20 years.
I just knew it was girl.
So, my wife made a deal with me – If it was a boy she got to chose the name. It would have Patrick Wayne.
If it was a girl it would be Brandy Nicole.
Nicole was not my choice of a middle name, but my wife said she reserved the right to choose the middle name if it was a girl.
    What could I say?
    Well, Brandy is 21.
    She hates her name.
She says it is a popular dog’s name.
    She hates the song “Brandy.”
But, I still love Brandy – both my little girl and the song.
