Should Notre Dame move into Manual High?

The St. Mark blog, ran by principle Charlie Roy (how cool is that, a blog run by a school principle!) usually addresses issues specific to St. Mark School, but the most recent post addresses a suggestion by Fr. Terry Cassidy to sell Notre Dame High School and use the cash to move into Manual.

The Peoria Diocese is going to close the current Notre Dame and move north… again… so it is an interesting thought to move back to the heart of Peoria. I’m sure Manual would scare off alot of well-to-do parents, but I’m not thrilled about moving farther north than the northern-most grade school in Peoria; but it seems like that’s their plan- follow the money and build a large sprawling campus in a corn field (probably about 15 acres would be sufficient, don’t you think?).

WWJD? He’d stay in Peoria, I’m convinced.

Manual isn’t closing is it? Cassidy is just trying to keep the southside viable being he is at St. Ann’s.

Not to be the spelling police, but I thought you’d want to know that he’s the “principal,” not the “principle.” When I was in grade school, they taught us to remember it ended with “pal” instead of “ple” by having us remember that the principal is our “pal.” Ha ha ha! We all got a good laugh out of that back then — we were deathly afraid of the guy. He had a paddle, and could use it.

We were all very well-behaved back then. I’m so glad they’ve gotten rid of the paddle and fear now. We’re so chummy and friendly that some kids don’t think twice about bringing a gun or knife to school… Yes, we certainly are progressive.

Darn, I’ll have to do some real soul searching now because I’ve always considered myself an excellent speller.

I think the same qualities of a good Principal are the same as those of a good parent- Fair and friendly, but having and showing the ultimate power of authority. A good parent, as is a principal is a teacher of morals, respect, right and wrong. A good parent and principal is NOT and should NOT be the child’s best friend.
