Donate Now, Pay Later, or Both?
It’s heartwarming to see the Mayor Ardis and many of Peoria’s past Mayors coming together to raise money for Caterpillar Museum Sqaure. Should I feel guilty that I’m not completely behind this monstrosity? When Mayor Maloof comes knocking on my door singing the praises of the beautiful modern design and asking for my donation, I plan to let him know that as a tax-payer, I am already paying for it and will be forced to pay for it as long as I am living here- so no, I have no desire to pre-pay my taxes.
Is it out of the realm of possibility that they are getting together to raise funds in hopes of putting off the inevitable- the city of Peoria bail out of Lakeview.
The ongoing comparisons to the John Deere Museum continues to prove that this is more a Caterpillar Museum. Lakeview isn’t going to attract anyone that it doesn’t now. Cat may. So we’re essentially subsidizing a Cat museum, and paying out our nozes for a “new and improved” Lakeview.
Yippee!Â

Not that I think I’ll see any of them solicting contributions in my East Bluff neighborhood in the near future……
This gives me a thought, though. If I give money now, can I have them sign a legal document that would release me from paying any taxes, fees, etc. that arise from needing extra financial support to sustain it in the future? I know, that is about as ridiculous sounding as past and present mayors strolling the street panhandling for donations.
Also, if I give money now, will I get a nice, shiny plaque that would read something like: “This toliet paper holder is provided for you due to a generous donation from Chef Kevin”.
I’m not a big fan of the museum going on the riverfront. What I am less a fan of is their proposed hours..9 to 5 M-F. Uh…don’t most people work and\or are in school then? Being open when a lot people can’t go and support them doesn’t make sense. I don’t know of too many people who would take off work to go to a museum. How about being open to 8 two nights a week and some Saturday and Sunday hours?

These mayors said it best if you understand taxpayer lingo “This is going to be the BIGGEST boondoggle since the RecPlex, O’Brien Field, Grand Prarie, Midtown, Campustown and don’t forget what Mayor MaGoof said “it’s not about the money” ” Turn the lights out - It’s time for the taxpayers to leave!

Kevin, that’s an excellent idea- they should take their collection cans to University & Main. This could open up a whole new revenue stream for the city!
BTW, you can have the toilet paper holder, but I want naming rights to the plunger.
