WikiPeoria

Does anyone ever check out WikiPedia’s entry for Peoria?

Why does it look like the Peoria Area Convention & Visitor’s Bureau is in charge?   I understand why Museum Square doesn’t want to focus on Peoria’s sin-city days of prostitution, alcohol and corruption, but I was surprised to see the Wikipedia entry is a glowing report on our fine city, minus anything even remotely controversial, aka PACVB.

I suggest we pull our creative blogging knowledge of the city and it’s history to create a comprehensive Peoria Wiki, not an advertisement.

Interesting idea. You may be up against forces that will change all your changes back, however…. If you look at the “history” tab on Wiki’s Peoria page, you’ll notice that on August 13, someone named “Rklawton” “removed blog link.” And what was that blog link? namethispeorialandmark.blogpeoria.com.

Someone is making sure blogs don’t have a presence in Wikipedia….

They’re quick, too — that blog link was added on August 12. The very next day, it was removed!

It was about three hours, actually.

I’ve seen a number of origins of the name Peoria. Any ideas what the word actually means?

According to indian tribal meaning, it means: To carry a pack on his back.

I am intrigued by the Peoria Wiki idea. Of course, someone tried it:

It was run by Jeff Nelson of MicroRam.

Nothing has really come of it.
