Last I checked, Madison Golf Course was still in Peoria.
BELLEVUE - An alert shopper thwarted a man’s attempt to steal more than $70 worth of meat from a supermarket Friday.
The shopper at Kroger, 3103 W. Harman Highway, told a store manager that a man had taken meat and left without paying shortly before 12:30 p.m.
The manager followed the man outside and found him climbing into the window of a pickup truck, police said.
The manager confronted the man and tried to detain him, but he broke free and ran off, dropping $71 worth of meat from under his coat before running across Madison Golf Course. He was still being sought Saturday.
UPDATE: See, I was right. After alot of discussion as to where exactly Bellevue is, Emtronics confirms that this crime did not take place in Bellevue. It’s a small and somewhat accidental victory, but I’ll take it.

If you recall, the Ladys Lounge bar that was so much trouble down the street was in Bellevue as well.

I cut my blogging teeth criticizing Peoria media for getting the facts wrong about where things were located in Peoria, such as stupid things like not identifying streets as either “east” or “west” when it made a difference as to where something important happened.
But to be fair, the story never said that Madison Golf Course was in Bellevue. To be honest, I’m not sure where Bellevue begins and Peoria ends. I know that Madison Gold Course is part of the Peoria Park District, but not all of the district is within the City of Peoria.

The story indicated that the crime was in Bellevue. The Journal Star got me on this one, I’ll admit it. I didn’t realize how close the boundary between Bellevue and Peoria actually was.
Until told otherwise, I’ll contend that the golf course is in Peoria. Apparently the shopping center next door is not.

Laramie seperates the city and the county (Bellevue in this case).

All of Madison Park and Golf Course are within the city limits of Peoria. At least that’s what every map of Peoria I have reads.

Well not exactly. Madison Park shopping center is in the county and township of Limestone and not in the city. Bellevue’s line ends at that bar @3611 W. Bellvue ends at the stoplight at Laramie amd follows the road right of way towads the west. The shopping center is not in Bellvue but in Limestone Township unincorporated areas.
