WMBD 1470 Pet Peeve #2
Please, somebody, inform Ken Zirsky that it is called “Pioneer Parkway”, not “The Pioneer Parkway.”
I like his personality, and even though most of the ‘traffic tie ups’ usually never exist when I drive through them, I still like the feeling that we are worthy of a full time traffic guy.
But please, stop saying “THE Pioneer Parkway” every 10 minutes. It’s called “Pioneer Parkway”. O’Brien Mitsubishi who has all those annoying ads lists their address as “2007 West Pioneer Parkway”, not “2007 West The Pioneer Parkway”.
The area is called Pioneer Park, and the street is called Pioneer Parkway.
FYI- National City Bank at the corner of University and Pioneer Parkway many mergers ago was called Pioneer Bank (with the old wagon out front) not The Pioneer Bank.

Have you noticed that Peorians leave off the designator after the street name, like “road” or “street” or “place” or “drive,” even in advertisements for businesses or in mailings?
I’m still not entirely confident that I know if University is a Street or a Road or what. (Pioneer Parkway is different because it’s just a two-name road.) War Memorial Drive is always either “War Memorial” or “War Drive.” And you can even fill out official forms here without filling in if your address is “street” or what without anybody balking!

How ’bout a pet peeve post about O’Brien buying so much air space on every radio station in town?
