Three Stooges Arrested After Failed Burglary Attempt

Journal Star: Three men allegedly broke into a West Bluff home Thursday and threatened two women at gunpoint. One of the men accidentally shot himself in the foot during the crime, police said.

Lewis Miller, 21, of 903 E. Frye Ave., Michael E. L. Hayes, 21, of 414 W. Nebraska Ave., and Ramone P. Williams, 21, of Chicago all were arrested and booked on charges of home invasion, armed robbery and residential burglary. Miller also was booked on a charge of possessing a controlled substance.

About 11:40 p.m. Thursday, three men forced their way into 808 W. Virginia Ave (which is not in the West Bluff, as the Journal Star would like you to believe - P.I.). They yelled at the occupants, ages 18 and 19, to give them money and ransacked the kitchen looking for cash.

During the robbery, one of the men reportedly hit the 18-year-old victim in the head with a gun. She was not seriously injured and declined medical attention.

The men left penniless after one of them fired the gun.

Police arrested Miller, Hayes and Williams in a car seven blocks away from the house about 20 minutes after the crime. Williams was transported to Methodist Medical Center for treatment.

Williams later admitted to accidentally shooting himself in the foot, police said.

I wonder if Mr. Williams was the legal owner of said gun?

West Bluff? Then what is that area called? It is about a block and a half off off Sheridan Road right down from the Sports Page bar and where Lippman’s used to be. I thought that was the West Bluff.

Were you to walk eight blocks to the east and cross North Knowville and stand in the 100 block fo East Virginia, I assure you, you would be in the East Bluff.

But remember how class conscious these West Bluffers are.

    heh.

You need to be south of the Instertate to be on the West Bluff.

No doubt the Journal Star wants to portray that as being the West Bluff which in people’s minds is farther south. You wouldn’t want to spook those more northerly Peorians into thinking that the hood is creaping their way… which it is. That is what years of neglect and looking away from the problems of the Heart of Peoria gets you. If you fail to treat the cancer it will mestasticize and GROW.

Well that is wrong. According to the PJS, anything south of I74 is the southend. Really though, the west bluff IMO goes all the way to War Memorial Drive. I grew up near Sheridan and Florence streets and that was always called the west bluff.

    no no no no Anon..

Your first mistake is relying on the geographically challenged PJS. The ‘South End’ follows the diagonal streets. It is the area comprised from SW of Kumpf to Bartonville and south of the hillside (ie the West Bluff). The North End follows the diagonal NE from Downtown to Averyville and likewise down the hill from the East Bluff. The ‘North End’ has nothing to do with Dunlap. The ‘Northside’ and ‘Southside’ refer to small bordering areas of downtown. The Southside is notable for its urban unfriendly redevelopment along Kumpf there.

Sheridan and Florence are long way from the West Bluff. Florence is more in the center of Peoria.

There is a West Bluff Council, that is comprised of the entire West Bluff neighborhoods. This organization and its geography are recognized by the city. It has existed for decades. It has historically defined roots as well.

I suppose once upon a time when the West Bluff really was the Haught Bouguois of Peoria, people would have wanted to be more closely associated with them. It is kind of like how Chicago suburbanites say they are from Chicago, but only when it is something positive. When it goes negative they quickly distance themselves.

Yes.. we West Bluffers are quickly distancing ourselves from those in the more northerly Central Peoria.
