I thought the woman’s comments were very touching, even though I personally do not agree with the god stuff. I do not think a belief in god will save you from suicide, heartbreak, or anything else bad. Actually, I think belief in god, to the exclusion of other ideals and realities, brings on more hardship and heartbreak. But I am very hard-line on my religious feelings and suicide is a sensitive issue at the moment as my cousin attempted suicide on Easter weekend. He was not successful and did not harm himself long term and has suffered from mental problems most of his life (he is 26), so I think it was a good wake-up call for his parents, who had been pretty much ignoring his issues.

Anyway, what I found very touching about the post were her comments about relationships - being good to the people you have relationships with, no matter what those relationships are. Think of all of the relationships you have at this very moment - father, mother, son, daughter, friend, customer, citizen, fellow blogger. Shouldn’t we all strive to be better to those we interact with? Shouldn’t we spread more joy than negativity? Shouldn’t we try to be more positive and honest everyday?

That is the real lesson from these comments, a very good lesson, which has nothing to do with god, really, just being a good person. And being a good person has absolutely nothing to do with whether you believe in god.
