Virgin Posts by Peoria Area Bloggers.

I’ve been meaning to do this for a while now. I was curious as to what the local bloggers first posts were and maybe to gleam a little insight into why we blog. As I write this, I have not read any posts yet, but I’m assuming there will be a lot of “why am I doing this”, “will anyone read this” and “here goes nothing” sorts of posts…

I’ve opened my blogroll into tabs and will go through them in alphabetical order. I am not planning on reprinting anyone’s entire post, just enough to get a feel for why they started, unless they’re really short or especially interesting.

Without any further ado, lets start:

A Knight In Dragonland, 8/17/06: I have now entered the blogosphere … and I have NO idea what I’m doing. Will I crash and burn or rise to new heights? I guess I’ll just take this one day at a time. I like talking to myself, so this should be fun!

Ahl Things Considered, 9/27/06: Okay, I think I am going to try the blogging thing. I’m not sure how long this will last, or if it will be any good, but we’ll see. I have had a love/hate relationship with blogs so far. I have seen good ones come and go, but mostly I have seen bad ones stick around for a long, long, time. I think that was the real issue discouraging me from giving it a shot. [...] I already feel like my first post isn’t going as well as I would like it. Oh well, maybe this will get better over time.

Angie’s Drama: [Sorry, I couldn't find a way to search back into the archives.]

Brad Carter’s Blog, 4/1/07: Today I jump into the blogging world with my own blog. I hope to educate and to be educated on anything and everything. Now that I’ve jumped, we’ll see how well I swim.

Burl’s Blog, 9/28/06: No suprising content in here… little politics, little life, litte sports… so let’s get it goin [and he didn't lie- he dove right in]

Chef Kevin, 6/25/05: [starts off with a warning] First, I’m going to be a bit out of the norm. Whereas other restaurant critics have to be politically correct so it can be printed, I do not. I may use another restaurant as a comparison. I may make insulting remarks. I may poke fun of (fill in the blank). I may make more stupid remarks than Phil Luciano. [...] See you around the table….

Coffee and a Cubicle, 11/1/05: “Webcam Window”

Common Sense Peoria, 3/2/06: The past several months, a lot of folks always talked about these blogs. Well, inquiring minds want to know. I checked out a few blogs and now the bug has bit me. I might as well join the rush and start my own blog.

David P Jordan, 1/25/06: Rail freight transportation is a topic rarely covered by the local media in any meaningful way, and unfortunately, the general public and also our elected officials are either oblivious or intentionally ignorant of their importance to our community. [...] With that in mind, I strive to educate the public on how rail transportation plays a crucial role in the economic vitality of my hometown, as well as other communities.

Emtronics, 11/27/06: [after deleting his blog, he returned with this post...] I have the right to remain silent. The question is; do I have the ability? Doubtful as I am full of it and it is too damn easy to type this all out instead of writing it all down.

Eyebrows McGee, 8/30/04: “Nature 1, Duct Tape 0″

Jeff Trigg, 5/12/03: “Speech to International Affairs student organization”

Keep Passing The Open Windows, 11/30/06: I have decided to give blogging a try. Quite funny if you know me, because I have always hated writing; however, I love to read and have become a fan of many area blogs (ex, eyebrows mcgee, lollygaggin) which are inspiring me to try and write.

Lollygaggin, original date unknown, returned to the blog world in Feb ‘06 with this: I won’t bore you with the details, other than to say that someone who’s very dear to me was hurt and I very much regret that.

But what I won’t do, is make excuses. What I won’t do is try to defend the choices I’ve made. What I won’t do, is let anyone dictate to me how I should live my life. What I won’t do, is to let other people’s judgment of me color the way I feel about myself and my life. What I won’t do, is let another anonymous, ball-less whackjob hurt someone that I love so much.

And, what I absolutely, positively refuse to do is crawl in a hole and hide.

Market 117, 11/2/04: “The Journey”

Merle Widmer, 8/4/04: Warning – This is not a politically correct blog site

Morton Malaise, 6/21/06: “Bidding for the Man”

O’Brien’s Briar Patch, 3/11/06: Well, this is a first attempt at a blog. Let those be forwarned: I am not one to say “this is my blog, so if you don’t like it, tough.” Though I have thick skin, I do not believe in unfair attacks and am quite fond of manners and courtesy.

Oneproblem, 10/8/05: Well……I guess if everyone else is doing it…. This looks like a fun experiment. How long will I blog? How long will the newness last? Till I run out of things to say? Forthcoming: My thoughts on art, culture, politics and whatever.

Out On A Limb, 10/6/06: Welcome, my friends to the maiden voyage of Out On A Limb…I used to blog at Lycos, but got extremely tired of the constant changes made to my site without permission, so for awhile I just blogged at myspace. I felt cramped there, so her I am, another move…another readership.

Peoria Chronicle, 04/15/05: It’s been said that everyone’s talking these days, but no one is listening. The blogosphere is like being one voice in a roaring crowd. On the other hand, they say that journaling is good for the mind. So, I’m going to give this a whirl anyway.

At first, since I’m new at this, this will serve as nothing more than an on-line journal where I can post my thoughts on the news of the day or other topics of interest to me. There’s always plenty to talk about in Peoria.

Peoria Pundit, 6/1/02: “Imagine” [the life of a call center employee]

Peoria Rocks, 2/1/07: As a Mom of 2 young pre-schoolers, I have often found myself getting up in the morning and wondering what we were going to do all day that wasn’t just the same old hum-drum routine. This seems particularly challenging during the long winter months. I mean, how many times per week do you really want to go to the Mall?

Now that I am back to work as a Broker-Associate at RE/MAX, I decided it was a good time to try to do something about this ongoing dilemna, so voila, the creation of this blog!

Polly Peoria, 2/25/05: What the hell is wrong with people in this town? Litter, litter everywhere. [...] lets actually set up a sting for a few of these self absorbed scum and fine the heck out of them. (Hey City Council, a viable money making idea here…) There could be a column in The (otherwise useless) Journal Star similar to the restaurant scores they currently publish. Lets slap a picture up too.

Scott Janz, 1/26/06: This is my blog. It is my curse. [...] Since this is my first blog, and it has takend me all freakin day to get the pics to show up, I’ll keep this short.

The WMBD Blog, 6/29/05: Welcome to my Blog! I’ve put up this blog temporarily until my book gets published. I have interviewed a lot of former Channel 31 personlites througout the years.

Vaspers the Grate, 5/31/05: “Web Site Visitor Orientation: why so rare?”

VONSTER, 3/10/04: Vonster blog coming soon as soon as this idot learns how to operate it.

Very cute idea, Peoriaillinoisan. Hard to remember back to when I was a virgin ;-)

  2. C. J. Summers Says:

There’s somebody missing from your list. Where’s your virgin post, sir?

  3. PeoriaIllinoisan Says:

You’ll have to find that yourself, sir. And let me tell you, it ain’t pretty.

The point was to embarrass everyone else, not myself.

I think it was July or August of ‘04 when I started Lollygaggin. Sad thing is, I was doin some pretty good writing back then…even got a couple things published here and there.
When I threw my little hissy and deleted the whole damn blog, I lost it all. In more ways than one. heh
    (sigh)

I have a year or two of blogging on Journalscape before I started on blogpeoria that I’ve been too lazy to import. I read some of them the other night. I did an entry when the Cubs were 5 outs from the World Series a few years ago, right before Bartman grabbed that foul ball and the team fell apart. That kind of memory I don’t need.
