Art Garfunkel’s concert isn’t selling as expected… the Journal Star reports that “hundreds” of tickets are available for a show with of only 2,200 seats and the price has nose-dived to $25 from $61.50, $46.50 and $36.50.
I actually saw him in concert a few years back in SLC with the Utah Symphony Orchestra. He put on a good show, mostly singing Simon & Garfunkel tunes with some of his solo sections mixed in. His young son joined him on the stage for a duet, curly white hair and all, just like Dad.
My parents scored front row tickets for the Peoria show. How much did they pay? Yep. $25.00

Caller ID said it was an 800 number and I was secretly hoping to get into a fun argument with a telemarketer since I had nothing better to do tonight, but this guy actually spoke English and was considerate when I said no thank you. I love my National Geographic Magazine, but I’m not thrilled about them calling me. At least they’re considerate.

No more Punkin Chunkin’ in Morton. I’ve never been to either the Morton Pumpkin Festival or the to Punkin Chunkin’ event because during our “craft show days” we were always burned out after Spoon River Drive, not to mention sold out. Still, I’ve always heard it was well attended and a good money maker for the crafters. Without the Punkin Chunkin’ I figure this will turn into just another small town festival.

The State of Illinois, after banning cigarette smoking inside building and within 15t of any entryway, is now working on taxing a pack of smokes an additional $.75, on top of the states current $.98 tax. Rod the Bod’s spokeswoman, in trying to justify a sales tax increase of which Blagojevich said he would veto “any sales tax increases” said: “It is not a general sales tax increase.”
Whatever.

I didn’t get my Journal Star delivered on Thursday, but I didn’t call since my annual subscription wasn’t paid yet and I didn’t want to be told the same over the phone. I got my Friday paper though, so I think they delivered the previous day’s paper to the house next door -again- as they do a couple of times a week. How many times do I have to complain about this? I usually just walk over and grab it; I’ve called about it and they always want to deliver a new one to me. I try to explain that I got the newspaper, it was just at the wrong house, but they insist on having some overweight middle-aged guy drive up in a buick station wagon and give me another paper. Thanks for the 2nd copy of the paper, but I’d rather they just deliver it to the correct house in the first place.

We adopted another cat. This from the guy who said he’d never have a pet beyond tropical fish, if fish even qualify as a pet. I’d take a picture and share but the cute little thing has been hiding out and I haven’t seen her in 24 hours. The water bowl was empty when I got home so I know she’s alive… somewhere…

No, and I knew I’d get this question. All we were doing was picking up some dry food for cat #1 at PetsMart when we saw this really cute and shy little thing curled up in the corner of her cage. She was a darling and came from the same shelter as #1, Friends of Strays in Princeton.
I had no intention of adopting a cat. Heck, I didn’t even want to go to the store. The next thing I knew we were filling out some paperwork and…

Congratulations on the newest member of your family. You did a great and noble thing… adopting from a local Animal Shelter. I used to volunteer at PAWS, and was appalled at the sheer volume of cats and dogs they have to euthanize every WEEK because of irresponsible pet owners. You have played a small role in helping to resolve this problem. When I adopted my little Pekingese, Sofie, from PAWS, I decided she should be an ambassador for Pet adoption. If anyone ever comments on how cute or sweet she is (which is often) I use it as an opportunity to promote pet adoption as part of a solution. I encourage all families who have adopted homeless pets to do likewise.

When we got our dogs, we didn’t see our cat for about a month. He was royally pissed. Now it’s all one big lovefest.
Also P.I. caught an hour-long documentary on CBU this afternoon: Johnny Cash at Folsom Prison. I have a feeling you’d like it.

Mazr, I bought Johnny Cash’s Folsom album on CD which included the entire concert, not the edited half hour album, but I gotta say, I think I like the shorter album version better for two reasons. One, for something as monumental as that concert and that album, there’s something special about holding an original pressing, not to mention the CD isn’t edited when he says “we’re recording this for a live album so I’m not supposed to say words like Hell or Shit” (exact words I don’t recall)- the album bleeps the words out. Hearing it on CD without the words bleeped out wasn’t quite as fun. The bleeping of the words puts you back in that time period. Second, the full concert has too much fluff. I didn’t find the songs that were missing from the album to be too exciting; the album catches the moment better, I think.
With that said, the extensive liner notes are worth the cost of the CD.
Back to Kitty Talk- the two cats have been playing hide and seek with each other all day, checking each other out with both hissing at appropriate moments. It’s fun to watch them try to figure each other out.

She’s adorable. And it’s good for cats to have a buddy cat, especially if there isn’t somebody home most of the day. They get lonely.
PS — buy your cat food at Kroger before you end up with a menagerie.
