I think I got someone fired…
It’s a bit hard to decipher, but here is a comment on my post about Bar Louie.
you people who obviously didn’t get free meals right away discuss me!! can you cook a well done 8 ounce burger without squishing it at hoime in less than 10 minutes??? if you can hahahahhahahahaha no you can’t!!!! and do you realize that these stupid †i didn’t get anything for free†BAD11 e-mails to company’s, cost hard working people with children to feed, cilco to keep on for their children, and a roof over their children’s heads , their job’s???? if you don’t like it don’t go back!! why get a poor mother of 3 kids she is working to support, FIRED????
All caps at this point… “lushybelle” is obviously pissed…
MAYBE YOU WOULD RATHER HAVE THE GOVERNMENT UP YOUR TAXES SO SHE CAN GO ON WELFARE THEN MAYBE YOU COULD NOT HAVE ENOUGH MONEY TO GO OUT TO EAT AT ALL????
COME ON PEOPLE HOW WOULD YOU LIKE IT IF YOUR DAUGHTER, MOTHER, BEST FRIEND ANYONE YOU CARED ABOUT GOT FIRED BECAUSE YOU JUST HAD TO THROW A FIT!!!!!!!! LIFE IS TOOOOOO SHORT WOULD YOU LIKE TO LOSE YOUR JOB NO I DON’T THINK SO
Previous to that comment was this classic:
hey all of Dawn’s friend’s your e-mail’s didn’t work+ we know she had you e-mail these so give it up
I have mixed emotions. On one hand, I don’t want my blogging to get someone fired from their job, but on the other hand, if you are rude, inconsiderate and kinda hapless, then maybe you should be fired. The argument that we should accept poor service to keep someone off of welfare is asinine. For the record, I did not contact or complain to corporate- I have no use for a gift certificate to a place that I will never visit.
Whether it’s a celebrity, a critic, a woman married to a blogger, a family, or a just a plain ol’ random schmuck who visits your establishment, they all should be treated equally and with respect.
Lesson to be learned: Do your job and do it well. You never know who you are serving, and that applies to all people in all industries, not just restaurateurs.
Update: The first comment was left in an unrelated post. I moved it to where it belongs. It is signed “THANKS FROM THE ENTIRE STAFF AT BAR LOUIE”
Update 2: I would like to thank the manager from Bar Louie for leaving a comment in an attempt to tone down the rhetoric. I gotta say, these two posts have certainly taken on a life of their own!

Wow.
I think this person missed the point:
IF YOU’RE IN THE SERVICE INDUSTRY, DON’T TREAT CUSTOMERS LIKE CRAP.
If there is a staffing problem or a kitchen problem, that’s not the fault of the CUSTOMER.
And if a wait staffer gets fired due to bad service, that’s somehow the fault of the customer who complained?
Nice accountability.
With this sort of attitude, I’d be shocked if Bar Louie closed.

This is exactly what kills me about the world today…Joseylives obviously believes that it is acceptable to treat customers with absoulute disrespect and hatefullness, but yet, when the customer rightfully objects it is THE CUSTOMER’s fault. Until she learns to accept personal responsibility for the way she treats others she will have a very hard life. Joseylives needs to understand how her bad behavior impacts others and learn it fast before she passes along that arrogant “It’s all about me” attitude to a bunch of kids- who will treat us to a whole new generation of selfishishness. This posters wife did nothing other than choose Bar Louie (out of 100 other options) to spend some quality time with her children. You would think that if Joseylives cared 1 iota about her job she would appreciate that decision and elect to correct what was wrong! Listen up Joseylives: It’s not all about the money! If it was, Bar Louie with its overpriced crap food would have been one of their LAST choices!

Well Josey…
if you were my employee, yours posts here would cost you your job.
The circumstances that surrounded the incident in question certainly would be reviewed but probably wouldn’t cost anyone their job right away. To come on here and take the tact that you have should cost you your job if you are indeed a Bar Louie employee. If management doesn’t care what you say here or how you approach the problem, then I think we begin to know where the real problems lay. No you wouldn’t be off my hook, you just might have some company in unemployment.

I think JoseyLives is threatening you, PI. Are you scared?
September 9th, 2007 at 12:31 pm
My sentiments are the same as Mahnko’s. I suspect that Management has no defined mission statement, no fundamental understanding of customer service, and is not screening or training well enough. I’ll bet the problems at Bar Louis go much deeper than firing a few lowly employee’s.
September 9th, 2007 at 12:55 pm
No worries, CJ, I’m anonymous
Seriously though, these people are digging themselves into a hole with these idiotic comments. And just to set the record straight, my wife never asked for a free meal. Ever. Or expected one. Nor were there any fits thrown. Nor was corporate contacted. Nor were any emails sent.
I have to wonder, when the Journal Star slammed their service in a review, were they threatened or accused of trying to put mothers on welfare? This pathetic.

Rotsaruck says: “I suspect that Management has no defined mission statement … ”
Five bucks says that the corporation that owns this company has a mission statement, one developed with the help of outside consultants and hours and hours or meetings with upper, middle and lower management.
Then they run the place with as few cooks and waitpersons as possible, and it all goes to hell.
Mom and Pop restaurants rock..
September 9th, 2007 at 10:32 pm
Okay… I always take internet reviews with a grain of salt, but after seeing how Bar Louie employees and their friends have acted here it is off my list of places to go and I will recommend that others I know skip it too.
There is no excuse to insult, flame and threaten customers on an open site.
Oh and please send my boss bad reviews about me, we could use the chuckle.

“Then they run the place with as few cooks and waitpersons as possible”
Well they are a business that tries to make money.
The profit margin on a restaurant is very small and very easy to lose. For all the charm of mom n pop restaurants, from my observation, they pay less. But it isn’t the pay that keeps quality staff in a restaurant. There is an expression about working in food service, ‘you either really love it, or are really desperate poor’. Management style has a far better effect on the quality of the work environment and the atmosphere of an establishment.
Bar Louie is not a pay issue and probably isn’t a number of staff issue, it is a management/training issue.
Mom n Pops rock because mom n pop really really really enjoy being in the business and sometimes that enthusiasm makes ALL the difference.

With an attitude like those of the waitstaff at Bar Louie’s…who would want to frequent their establishment? I could imagine how I would be treated…No thanks, I wouldn’t even let my dog eat there!

First off, I’m a manager with Bar Louie, that works in Peoria. I apologize for any bad service you had when your wife visited. I have talked to that server personally, and even though she’s only been with us a few weeks, it was unacceptable if she did act that way. I’m sorry. There are reasons for what happened, but I do realize they don’t matter, our job is to present good service.
As to the comments on your story, the one about a manager not leaving due to check problems is false, never happened at this store. This store is not in danger of closing either, contrary to one persons comment. I talked to the staff here, and no one responded to your story with comments, especially the one actually signed “Bar Louie staff”. I believe those are left by a flame-bater, of which there are many on the internet.
Yes, this store has had service problems in the past, but we really are working on it. Yes, there will sometimes still be problems, that is hard to prevent 100% of the time, and we will work hard to make it up to the customer when this does happen. I do hope you give us another chance in a couple months, and feel free to ask for me. This is my real name, and e-mail address.

I can’t believe I just watched your 2nd music video. All the way through!!!

At last count, that makes two of you, BJ.

Hi Clayton,
Good job piping up here. But it begs the question – what did you think you would hear from them? – “Oh yes, that was me, I cannot tell a lie, I did it!” Too funny. You do get a big two thumbs up for posting and representing your business.

What I want to know is how the manager from Bar Louie got wind of your blog?
September 12th, 2007 at 11:39 am
From the employees that did not respond, of course.

Our promotions lady at corporate subscribes to a service which alerts her to mentions of certain keywords on the internet. Bar Louie, etc. I got a nice e-mail alerting me
Thanks for your positive responses to a negative situation, I really appreciate it!
