BU Basketball Implodes
A star Bradley basketball player has been arrested for domestic battery. Peoria Police took 23 year old Daniel Ruffin into custody about 5:30 Saturday morning at his apartment at 908 North Frink.
A police report says Ruffin was arrested for use of hands and feet. Police say the 20 year old female victim was taken to OSF St. Francis Medical Center. A spokesman for the hospital says the victim is not a patient there now. Ruffin remained in the Peoria County jail as of late Saturday morning.
A statement released by Bradley University says Ruffin has been suspended from the team indefinitely. He will not play against Milwaukee-Wisconsin Saturday night and his status for the remainder of the season will be based upon further review.
Bradley Director of Athletics Ken Kavanagh says, “With high expectations of our student athletes, this situation is extremely disappointing news to all. We will continue to review this matter and share additional information as it becomes available.â€
Based on BU President Joanne Glasser’s reaction to the Athletic Department’s slap on the wrist after the arrest of underage drinking and driving, I believe Bradley Basketball’s season is over.
If this allegation of Domestic Battery is true, Daniel Ruffin should not be allowed to play ANY more games with a Bradley uniform on. We will have to wait for more information to come out about the incident before jumping to conclusions, but it’s time for Bradley University to put itself on the map as a place where excellence is expected both on AND off the court. If you can’t live up to that, you don’t play. Period.

Kinda funny how I read on Peoria Pundit and PjStar how people defend ruffian. The girl he assault was “one” on his girlfriends, and suffered injuries including, bruising, swelling and loss of teeth. I’m sure all Ruffian supporters say we all have the urge to knock our own teeth out. He was arrested while in bed with another girlfriend the other girl didnt know about. I’m sure he’s an upstanding citizen full of integrity. Sad how many people still try to defend their heroes, even when they are nothing less than common thugs who use violence and status to get their way.

Sounds like Bradley needs to take a good hard look at the athletic dept and how they deal with the athletes actions while not playing the various sports. Between the basketball and soccer teams I say they are having some major issues.
The sad thing is that these athletes all through their playing years from grade school on up were probably handled as the “untouchable” ones whether it be getting a passing grade or getting into trouble. What does this teach the rest of society?

This is just universally stupid of Ruffin. To get into trouble like this so late in his senior year pretty much destroys any chances (However slim they already were) he had of playing pro ball, in Europe or elsewhere.

Mortonmalaise: I’m on Ruffins side in this, but contrary to your statement, this incident will only make his stock rise in the NBA, better known as the WWFNBA. Those clowns have no moral standing. Daniel and Wills’ statements make more sense than the girls does when you fit all the pieces together, but never mind, we will never know as this case will never be tried-the girl already has said she wants no part in it and does not want
Daniel to be prosecuted. Does that tell you anything?
