Losing faith in Lou as he writes off Kerry Wood’s latest injury as a minor thing.
Lou, we’ve been dealing with this for nearly ten years- you’ve been dealing with this for what… two? Jim Hendry- use your brain and let this guy go!
MESA, Ariz. — Cubs pitcher Kerry Wood, who appears to be the front-runner for the closer’s job, was scratched from Wednesday’s game because of lower back spasms. His status was listed as day to day.
Wood, competing with Bob Howry and Carlos Marmol for the spot, was to throw one inning on Wednesday and again on Thursday. That plan is on hold now, and the Cubs may delay an announcement as to who has the job until Wood can pitch on consecutive days.
“It’s a little bit of a setback but nothing, nothing serious,” Cubs manager Lou Piniella said Wednesday. “It’s a minor thing he goes through every spring.”

He’s a liability, as he has been since he started flinging sinew from his elbow into the Wrigley stands a few years ago. They need to get rid of him.
