Video: Robertson Memorial Fieldhouse Demolition
Did anyone really think I was going to let this opportunity pass? You might call this a companion to my Maplewood video.
As much as I tried to use only original photographs, I filled in a few gaps by borrowing from outside sources, including postcards from peoriahistory.com and a dramatic shot that Jonathan Ahl took from his office window.

Great pictures. I have fond memories of the fieldhouse. I worked four freshman basketball games on that raised floor for then Assistant Coach Joe Stowell, undoubtedly the most hardworking, sincere and positive coach any player could ever have been fortunate to play under his tutelage. He had a genuine and personal interest in every player who ever played on his team.
As did his gracious wife Marilyn.

PI –
Ditto to the above posts. Great job. We wanted to get video of the actual demolition (have pics. etc.) but missed a big part of it as one of us was at a BU press conference and the other was at work when the main part of the roof came down. As my sons not in town have come back to Peoria recently from college, etc., they have expressed their sadness at this icon being gone. They have been familiar with the Field House from their earliest memories. This has upset them more than their grandparents’ house being razed for a parking deck; they have memories of high school basketball games and sectionals, etc, there as well as BU memories.
Thanks.

I’m glad it wasn’t copyrighted (as were a few of the ones I used).
