I found the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow!
It’s at Cash Land on University!
Speak of scams, this comment was dropped on an old post of mine regarding the Iowa Steak Co. (text slightly reformatted for easier reading)
So here it is. I currently work for Iowa Steak. To be completely honest, I am fed up with the job. I work for the company in Tennessee and I have a real problem with the company and the product.
It says weekly fresh deliveries on the pamphlet, yeah that’s a lie. Last delivery we got was 144 cases of steak two weeks ago. We are told to take older meat out and sell as well as our “fresh” meat. Nothing is more embarrassing than opening a box of chopped sirloin burgers or the filets and noticing the meat is BROWN…now any warehouse manager or office manager will tell us delivery drivers that it is because we were showing the product outside too much, truth of the matter is it’s OLD.
We are told to go out everyday and do whatever it takes to move boxes of meat for the company. The motto is..if your not lying, you ain’t trying. I have a problem with the fact that I’m supposed to get into someone’s house, show them the meat, and then negotiate a deal to take their money.
Just for a little insider info…a steak case cost’s the drivers $120. Individual boxes cost $20. Oh, theres NO difference in driver cost for Chicken Seafood or Pork. It’s all $120 for the case or $20 for an individual box. If you guys REALLY want to get under their skin, let them show you the product, negotiate a deal, then tell them your not interested. We call that getting stroked.
I do hate to admit it, but every IA Steak salesman is a hustler. Even myself. One of my close friends told me I don’t have enough Evil in my body to sell meat door-to-door.
Needless to say…this will be my last week employed as an Independent Contractor with IA Steaks.

Who would have thought that a guy selling meat out of the trunk of his car couldn’t be trusted …

Well, I fell for it! But it wasn’t a trunk, he had a pick-up truck.

LOL…. he came to my door. Waved this pamphlet in front of me. Asked him if I could have the pamphlet to look it over cause I really didn’t have the time to talk to him. He wouldn’t let me keep the pamphlet. He left. Definitely a hustler. He lives in West Peoria some place.

Iowa Steaks….what a joke. I can’t even begin to tell you the ways we are told to hustle people. I am glad everyone has had a chance to read my post…it wasn’t until after I had posted it that I realized the last post was 2007…my fault.
Not only does the company screw its customers…it screws its employees as well. One thing that Chis M. loves to do is take peoples money. Chris is the President of Iowa Steak. When we have overages on the books…it somehow disappears overnight!! For example, I had sold a $120 Steak Case for $250. I was handed a check written out to the company. When we did our turn in that night I owed the company $145 which would have left me with $105 profit. It was written down on the books and I double checked when I left. In the morning…I was at 0 on the books. Not $105.
So, not only do normal everyday people get screwed by IA Steak, the independent contractors get screwed as well. But Chris comes out on top every time. Except back in 2005 I believe when he had to recall ALOT of meat due to ECOLI!
This place is a joke, they tell us we are I.C.’s but they regulate our hours, we pay DOUBLE tax, and they tell us what days we HAVE to show up, or we are fired…man it’s a great place!

They may be bad but as far as I know you cannot get anal warts from iowa steaks? Am I right about the whole anal warts iowa steaks thing?

Yea, not sure about the anal warts. I’m sure if you have them, IA Steak may not have caused them. But your on the wrong site to look for a cure.

It’s time someone shut Iowa Steaks down for good. We did purchase a case of steak, a case of chicken, and a case of pork. We asked for custom cases as there were some cuts of meat in the steak and pork we did not want.
Iowa Steak’s idea of a filet and of a pork tenderloin doesn’t match anything I’ve ever seen in my life. As for their claims about the meat be closely trimmed, that’s a complete lie. There have been many cuts that had so much waste on them, we simply threw them away, even though we thought about dumping them on Iowa Steak’s front door step. Decided not to do that, since a former salesman from Iowa Steak indicated someone named Chris, allegedly the owner of the company had been known to get violent with both salespeople and customers. Didn’t want to go there.
I’m not saying everything was bad, one of the chicken flavors was very good and the chicken by and large was closely trimmed. However, the lemon pepper chicken had a chemical taste to it, and we were afraid to eat it. Threw out at least 6 of those. The bone in and boneless pork chops were pretty good, but the reason was more from the way we prepared them, than a superior cut of meat.
We even tried their stuffed lobster shells and, oh, my gosh, they were terrible — completely inedible. So we threw away a box and a half of those. They tasted old and on the verge of being spoiled.
I did some research on this company, and they had a massive recall in the last few years. Also reached out to the guy who used to work for them and you wouldn’t believe the horror stories he told. Seems their target market are folks receiving food stamps. They know exactly when these are issued every month, and then they hit these folks hard. Another favorite haunt is trailer parks. Allegedly, these guys are told to turn in all of their money at the end of the day, when the cost of the product is deducted from the sales, leaving their profit. If they had checks or credit cards, the sales folks were told it would take at least 6 weeks for the checks and credit card payments to clear, so they couldn’t even hope to see any of their profit from those for a long time. Problem was they never got their profit back. They moved the meat, paid for the cost of the meat, but the company never gave these guys their profits. Seems this Chris person was taking it all for himself. The sales people were even told the company couldn’t write checks to them for their profit – another lie. When checks were finally issued, this Chris character would put a stop payment on the checks and left these guys hanging out in the cold.
This company preys on folks who might not have the capacity to make the wisest of decisions about buying their inferior products, as well as the sales people they hire, both men and women, making them all kinds of promises they never intend to keep.
Do a web search and you’ll see that Iowa Steaks has been in bankruptcy before. Wondering if they’re heading that way again? At the very least, they deserved to be held liable for the inferior product they sale, and at best, some of these “independent contractors” they hire should get together and sue them for all the money they’re owed.
Oh, on the independent contractor status, I know a little about that, as I had as many as six independent contractors working for me in the past, and I know what the IRS rules are concerning independent contractors; and guess what, Iowa Steaks is in violation of the most basic rules allowing a company to claim their employees are independent contractors.
Hope someone gets them soon, before someone else ends up with E-Coli and Salmonilla.
