Have no fear, the City has a plan.

Press release:

The City of Peoria is expecting an ice storm to hit the area beginning late this afternoon, Thursday, December 18, 2008.  The storm is expected to last through mid-day on Friday December 19, 2008.  City crews are preparing for a salting operation to combat the ice accumulation which is expected to be as much as 1/2 to 3/4 of an inch.

Ice accumulations of this magnitude will cause significant problems including slippery surface conditions on roads and other flat surfaces, tree damage and possible power outages.  Residents should take necessary precautions in advance of the storm.

In addition, the City will be closing hills and streets that have an incline, due to possible hazards during the ice storm.  These hills/streets are being barricaded for closure until they become safe for travel.  The hills are:  Ligonier, Aiken, Blaine, Richard Allen, Starr Terrace and Wayne.    Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Drive will be closed from Union hill to Richard Allen hill.  The street closures are Olive, Chicago, Oak, Maple, Pecan, Cleveland, Warren, Grove, DuSable and Sand.

We are working with the Red Cross to establish shelters.  Once a plan is in place, we will notify the community about the shelter locations and times of operation.

Way to go PI!!! Now, instead of taking criticism from people like you, they’re just going to close all the roads and wait for the sun to melt everything (don’t they call that spring?).
