Winter blows around here. We all know that, but why fret about it? C’mon, this is going to be fun! Weather events like this this don’t happen everyday, so I say get out there* and enjoy the shimmering beauty of the ice. Plus, you can tell your grandchildren how you survived not only the great blizzard of ‘06, but the ice storm of ‘08 – if it actually materializes as predicted.

A WINTER STORM WILL AFFECT NORTHERN ILLINOIS AND NORTHWEST INDIANA BEGINNING THIS EVENING AND CONTINUING THROUGH FRIDAY MORNING. THIS STORM WILL BRING A VARIETY OF WINTER WEATHER TO NORTHERN ILLINOIS AND NORTHWEST INDIANA RANGING FROM HEAVY SNOW ACCUMULATIONS OF AROUND A FOOT ACROSS FAR NORTHERN ILLINOIS TO SIGNIFICANT ICE ACCUMULATIONS BETWEEN A HALF INCH AND ONE INCH SOUTH OF INTERSTATE 80. LOCATIONS IN BETWEEN WILL EXPERIENCE A COMBINATION OF ICE AND SNOW ACCUMULATIONS.

IN ADDITION…AN ISOLATED THUNDERSTORM IS POSSIBLE TONIGHT.

THERE IS AN INCREASED RISK OF ICE JAMS ACROSS AREA RIVERS. FLOODING DUE TO ICE JAMES HAS ALREADY BEEN REPORTED ON PORTIONS OF THE ROCK AND LOWER FOX RIVERS.

* You shouldn’t be driving in this weather, and considering how piss poor the City did cleaning up two feet inches of snow, if you end up hitting a telephone pole, you have no-one to blame except yourself.
