A Random Christmas Act of Kindness
For those who subscribe to the Journal Star, you know about the daily feature of old ladies helped to their car and war veterans who get their dinners paid for by strangers…
In that light, I would like to nominate KZ93, Big Oldies 93.3, The Drive, 93.3 for playing the Beatles for the entirety of Christmas day. Don’t get me wrong, I like Christmas music, but after being inundated with it since before Thanksgiving, it gets old and by the time December 1st arrives, much less December 25th. I strongly believe that there are only specific times when Christmas music is allowed…
- On the way to and back from Talbotts Christmas Tree Farm.
- Decorating the tree.
- During shopping trips close to Christmas.
- Christmas eve.
- Christmas morning.
- Christmas Mass.
Anytime not mentioned above is a foul. Therefore, I was thankful when I found 93.3 playing the Beatles all day long. They did play a bit too many of the hits, but that is hard to avoid, considering the Beatles had about 112 of them, but if I was the program manager, I’d take all of their albums and hit the random button. I have to admit that I did hear some tunes interspersced amongst the hits that are rarely, if ever, heard on traditional radio.
I do have a minor complaint, which is Paul McCartney’s overplayed “Wonderful Christmastime” is not a Beatles tune, it’s a solo McCartney song. It’s a nice song and all, but if we’re going solo, how about some tunes from the classic must own Harrison album “All Things Must Pass” or some Lennon love?
…and in the end…
I could never be a DJ, as I’d be fired as fast as I was hired, but I would like to give the staff of 93.3 a thumbs up for giving me some happy relief from an overload of Amy Grant.

Is it true that Paul McCartney was in another band BEFORE Wings?

Ugh…I could not agree more. I work in retail and have left the Muzak off in my area most of this month so I can just avoid it!
I wish I had known that 93.3 was going to play all Beatles. I would have actually turned the radio on yesterday!
