Save The Madison!

As reported in Saturday’s Journal Star, there is a group attempting to raise money to get the Madison restored and up to code, with previously reported estimates of 10-12 million to fully restore it.  If you’re not doing anything this Wednesday, head on down there at 9am for a public rally.  A press conference is scheduled for Saturday the 16th.  Without major taxpayer assistance I don’t see how they’re going to pull this off, but I certainly wish them the best of luck.

Are the current owners selling? I guess that’s the first step.

There is much talk about what is needed for downtown and it comes around there is a need for a venue like this. I can’t see where building new is going to be any cheaper or as fulfilling as restoring this old gem.

The TIF Fund cash register will be still warm…

I for one would love to go see a movie in the Palace again…but is the Madison worth saving?

And any half-measures would be wasted money I assure you.

I wondered if the Comfort’s were on board (who own it) – and according to the latest update on Facebook, they’re not and the countdown to demo begins…

The owners have told the people to stop. They want no part of any fund raising for restoring the Madison.

So, the Comforts will let the place rot until someone makes them a juicy enough offer for the property and the place gets torn down?

  7. Emtronics Says:

More like waiting to see how the new hotel plays out and who may need this corner for the next shiny project.

The first thing they need to do is put the cover back on the man hole in the roof. Then mow the gutters.
